Devil? Genius? Innocent?

8 Nov

Maybe. Yes. No.

I am talking about J.M. Barrie.

Two of my favourite things, together: illustrations by Anne Grahame Johnstone and the story of Peter Pan.

When I was a kid I was terrified of growing up and taking on adult responsibilities. Childhood seemed like a safe place, where youth was an excuse for ignorance and ineptitude. Heavy.

Have you ever seen a more debonair Hook? Not me, the illustrated one below. Dustin Hoffman, you suck.

Check out Tinker Bell’s boudoir, who doesn’t want a fruit-blossom bedspread? Disney version of Tinker Bell post 1953, you suck.

Reading: Peter Pan and Wendy, J.M. Barrie adapted by Jane Carruth, illustrated by Anne Grahame Johnstone, (Award Publication, 1988)

Was J.M. Barrie a paedophile? I don’t know. Possibly.

How Bad was J.M. Barrie?

Peter Pan. What a story. It simply invites adult escapism as well as fun and joy for children. We have enjoyed the Peter Pan cartoon series as well as the book in truncated form or in full.
